School Trips

Our proposal is to make a trip to the Pyrenees as we assume they were 11,000 years ago

Visit the Fauna Park in the Pyrenees, is to enter a forest full of life, through a time tunnel that takes us to the Pyrenees 11,000 years ago. It is difficult to define the enclosure, the pleasantly surprising experience provides the feeling of plunging into an enclosed environment that nature and animals that inhabited for thousands of years the place.

It is necessary to set aside the idea of a conventional visit to a game reserve, it should be planned as a trip to a world that holds something magical, which is found from the silence and observation. You have to be properly armed with sneakers or hiking boots, sunscreen, clothes for rain, and possible changes in temperature, since we are at a height of between 1380 and 1560 meters.

But as important as the computer is personal disposition to act like an explorer who goes into the forest and crosses paths with their eyes open, discovering a new way to see the animals, stalking, spying, staring, as if a primitive man is involved, only that our purpose is not hunting and our trophy will be observed, photographed, and teach proud to have our family and friends, our achievement.

We enter through natural mountain trails in a forest of thirty acres, the roads have a length of about three miles and six hundred feet drop.

If we walk in silence we can hear the song of birds inhabit the mixed forest, and if you look carefully around us and the trunks of trees, we can see squirrels.

We came to a double door with a curious, rustic and ancient mechanism to remain always closed, through the door we entered the enclosure of the deer, it will find deer, deer, roe deer and reindeer.

Each species has characteristics that we learn to identify, through the shape of their antlers, the anal shield, we learn that the antlers of deer falls each year, and re-develop ever larger and more ramifications.

While we discover the animal species, we found plant species, of which the most prominent are marked by its popular name, scientific name, its medicinal uses, craft, or curiosities.

So in this village there, the ancient plant ferns, boxwood (Buxus sempervires), used handmade by the hardness of the wood, to make cooking utensils, wood is so heavy that it does not float in water, is a plant that can live six hundred years. Later, a spectacular white pine (Pinus sylvestris), over three hundred years old, we are surprised at the side of the trail because of its height and the diameter of its trunk.

We left the deer enclosure and we are on the road that will lead us to the precincts of the lynx, boreal lynx find there, hidden and camouflaged in the vegetation, there is a platform that facilitates their observation.

We came to a rest area where we have available tables and benches, washrooms and a small bar with a splendid view of Telera rock, if we want to stop on the way to invigorate and discussed the experience.

Next to the seating area is the area of the bison in a field that is what gives the park its name, “Lacuniacha”, a name of a place that in ancient times was a little ibón, is a diminutive Lacuniacha somewhat contemptuous of the lagoon. Bison us back to prehistoric times, it looks impressive, lived in these places for thousands of years and have become, they have adapted perfectly to the place, the proof is that they have already played over the years we have had several buffalo calves.

We continue along the path, and we see a group of mountain goat, with representatives of all ages, include older males, which we recognize by the size of their horns.

Going up a steep but short slope, we reached the lookout Telera Peña, from which we observe the breathtaking scenery, with its steep ridges, and a unique geological phenomenon, the “Arc tectonic” in a rock along the hillside presents a huge bow was holed by ice in the ice age.

Later we found Pyrenean mountain goats, usually perched on a mound that is located on the premises, from which a dominant position are watching us, calls attention to its hook-shaped horns, and haughty.

We again see now from a dominant position of the bison enclosure, and a new viewpoint from which we can see the Sierra Tendeñera, highlighting Peña Blanca, the Circus Circus Sabocos and Argualas, the peaks of algae and Garmonegro.

Pyrenean glaciers have reduced in size, from the viewpoint we can see in the distance Rocky Argualas Glacier, which is a mass of sand, stones and frozen blocks that form a body in which interstitial ice is seen descending in the form of language from the vertical walls and Garmonegro Argualas the glacial cirque to 2,500 meters.

We finished surround the ancient lake, and came to the area of the Przewalski horses, genetic real gems that populated the place and whose last specimens were discovered when they were thought extinct on the plains of Mongolia, were reported missing are the horses that are represented in the Caves of Altamira, with erect mane, torso width, not very high.

We made our way down and find the perimeter of the wolves, the wolf is an animal on which there are many stories and legends, persecuted for centuries by man, and that decimated their livestock, is a cunning animal, very strong, able to make long journeys and hunting with his fellow neatly organized into groups that are able to harass their victims for hours, exhausting, it is the only enemy so powerful animals such as bison.

A gentle descent takes us to the entrance, there are again receiving a rest area, toilets and a shop at reception where we can buy souvenirs of our visit.
